The term Callahan is used for many things in the world of Ultimate. The name comes from Henry Callahan (1957–1982) was a player and ambassador of Ultimate and helped bring the sport to the University of Oregon, formally establishing a team in 1978. In 1982 he was murdered during a robbery while working in Boulder, Colorado.

[edit] Callahan Rules

The Callahan Rules of Ultimate were an addition to the standard rules of Ultimate with minor additions and clarifications, some of which were eventually included in the official canon.

[edit] Callahan (point)

A Callahan is the act of catching a disc on an interception in the opponent's endzone by a defensive player for a point. Previously (until UPA Rules 10th edition), a defender who intercepted a catch would have to exit the end zone, establish a pivot then throw a pass to score a point. This was the most substantive change in the Callahan rules, and the term is derived from the ruleset.

[edit] Callahan Awards

The Callahan Awards were established to recognize the most valuable players in college ultimate. Each year a trophy is presented to the man and woman who combine superior athleticism with outstanding sportsmanship, leadership and dedication to the sport of ultimate.
