User talk:Ivar

Jump to: navigation, search

Hi Ivar, I've jumped right in. I've started to make some edits to clarify language, and bring the style in line with wikipedia. Please let me know on my talk page if this is presumptuous. Themindset 15:51, 3 August 2006 (MST)

I read about it on the VUL forum, where I have the same user name. I'm an experienced editor over at wikipedia (once again, same user name), so I'd be happy to bring any experience from there over here (including copying over templates, etc.). I'd like to establish a style guide like this one - this may seem anal, but it is actually a key to making the site easier to navigate. Themindset 16:40, 3 August 2006 (MST)

[edit] admin status

I seem to have admin buttons at the top, I'm guessing you did that? If so, thanks, I will try to help develop the project as much as possible. Themindset 17:08, 8 August 2006 (MDT)

Strange, I wasn't alerted to your message giving me sysop powers. Anyways... thanks! Themindset 11:08, 9 August 2006 (MDT)

[edit] uploading files

Hey Ivar, there's no option for uploading files... how do I put pics in articles and stuff? (PS - you bought shoes off my roomate, Phil. Small world, huh?) Themindset 12:36, 6 October 2006 (MDT)

I was playing with adding uploads to my dev server and promptly forgot to add it to the live site. I'll add image support next week (ie: by Oct 13...) Ivar 21:59, 6 October 2006 (MDT)

[edit] linkage from other websites

Hey Ivar,

I just noticed that this website wasn't on the VUL links page; should we get them to list this website on their links page? What about other leagues and clubs too? -david

good idea.. While I've been tracking changes to ultipedia, I'd dropped the ball on adding stuff and promoting it. I've even lost my password.. (which I will endeavour to reset shortly) The plan is to spend more time this new year.

[edit] how would you like to become the new Ultilinks?

Hi there, Peldi here of Ultilinks.com (I know, it's down now). I am thinking about donating the 1000s of ultimate-related links from around the world to ultipedia. My questions are: do you want them? Ultilinks, up to the day it went down, received maybe 5000 page views a day. Can you handle such traffic? Also, I would like to just email you my data files (they are flat text files), they would need some formatting conversion to fit in your wiki. Also, any popular site has to deal with SPAM, do you have any plan on how to do that effectively? Is there a CAPTCHA plug-in for MediaWiki maybe? Anyways, let me know your thoughts. Thanks

While the traffic might be nice, from a style POV it might be a better idea for someone with enough time to manage it Peldi?) to become an ODP editor and merge ultilinks into http://dmoz.org/Sports/Flying_Discs/Ultimate_Frisbee/. Ultipedia should be mostly about the content, and not about being a big collection of links to external sites (despite the fact that currently that's about all we have)

I think dave0's got the right idea, but it might make sense to distribute links around ultipedia in related entries under the 'see more' or 'reference' section.. Ivar
